On 9 April the seventh event of the 12th Sannio Philosophy Festival was held, with the lectio magistralis of Prof. Maurizio Ferraris, entitled “What beauty reminds us of”. Starting from Baudelaire, Ferraris highlighted the link between beauty, memory and the ephemeral, underlining how the beautiful arises from the encounter between what is fleeting and what is eternal.

Recalling Plato, he interpreted beauty as the origin of knowledge and as a memory tied to childhood. Citing Proust and Freud as well, he concluded that the search for happiness is deeply connected to memories: we are, in fact, the sum of our experiences.
