Michela Marzano

Michela Marzano

Philosopher

Granddaughter of the jurist Arturo Marzano — whom, to her dismay, she would discover only in adulthood to have been a Fascist from the very first hour — she studied at the University of Pisa and at the Scuola Normale Superiore. After earning her classical secondary-school diploma, her postgraduate specialization in Philosophy at the Normale with a doctoral thesis on the ethics of G. E. Moore (supervisor Remo Bodei) and in Bioethics at the University of Rome "La Sapienza", she first became a researcher at the CNRS and then a lecturer at the University of Paris V: René Descartes (with a habilitation dissertation on consent in the medical field), where she still teaches today. She directed the Department of Social Sciences of the Sorbonne, before becoming a deputy for the Democratic Party. The author of numerous essays and articles on moral and political philosophy, she edited the Dictionnaire du corps (PUF, 2007).
